Advent 2009
Tuesday, December 1st, 2009The days leading up to Christmas are filled with distractions. We need help to cut through the many distractions of the Christmas season if we to want focus any attention on Jesus. Since the fourth century, the Church has celebrated the season of Advent (which means “coming” or “arrival”) to help focus attention on Jesus.
During this season of Advent, Discovery Community Church can help you and your family celebrate Advent in three ways.
Sunday Morning
Our Sunday Morning Worship Services will look at the story of Jesus from the promise of his birth to the promise of his return. As we sing songs traditionally associated with Advent, pray, read and study the Scriptures, and celebrate the Lord’s Supper, we will worship the one who was “born thy people to deliver, born a child and yet a king.”
Christmas Program
Again this year we will enjoy a special celebration of the season as our children take the stage in a variety of presentations leading us to celebrate the reason for the season. This special celebration will be presented on Sunday, December 12th from 10:00 -11:30 A.M. Discovery Community Church invites everyone, individuals and families, to join with us for this special worship time. A time of fellowship will follow with our traditional monthly potluck lunch together. All are welcome!!
Christmas Eve
On December 24th from 6:30-7:30PM we will be gathering for a Christmas Eve Candlelight worship service. You and your family are invited to come and celebrate as we remember the arrival of Jesus with traditional carols, worship songs and readings.
We meet at the former Galaxy Theatre, 250 10th Avenue, and you, your friends and your family are always welcome!
We Have Moved!
Tuesday, November 24th, 2009This past month has been very busy and exciting and humbling as we have witnessed the grace of God up close. We have now had four services in our new home and have had many first-time and repeat visitors. The provisions of God have greatly exceeded our expectations. The acoustics have been wonderful and room for our ministries has been superb. Come visit us and see what great things God is doing amongst us!
We Are Moving!!
Wednesday, October 14th, 2009We are excited to announce that we are moving! Effective October 26th, 2009, we will be the proud owners of the old ‘Galaxy Theatre’ in downtown Campbell River. Sunday, November 1st, will be our first worship service in this facility and we want to rejoice in God’s provision to us. Our offices and ministries will all be moving to this new building as well. Our new address will be 250 – 10th Avenue, Campbell River, B.C.
Pacifism
Friday, April 17th, 2009Found an excellent documentary about Mennonites during the Second World War and added it to the links page. “The Pacifist Who Went To War” explores the difficult decisions and identity crisis the Mennonite and Mennonite Brethren churches faced during the war and interviews men who chose to fight and who chose to be “conscientious objectors.”
